1.U.S. to pay Iran $1.7 billion in legal settlement（美国将向伊朗支付17亿美元以解决法律纠纷）
As the Obama administration welcomed the implementation of a major nuclear deal with Iran on Saturday, it also prepared to close the book on another long-standing issue between the two countries: a decades old legal claim.
The U.S. State Department announced the government had agreed to pay Iran $1.7 billion to settle a case related to the sale of military equipment prior to the Iranian revolution, according to a statement issued on Sunday.
Iran had set up a $400 million trust fund for such purchases, which was frozen along with diplomatic relations in 1979. In settling the claim, which had been tied up at the Hague Tribunal since 1981, the U.S. is returning the money in the fund along with "a roughly $1.3 billion compromise on the interest," the statement said. Law firm Leigh Day has accused the British government of violating international law by enabling the export of British-made arms to Saudi Arabia, which may have been used to kill civilians.
The trade is lucrative, with almost £6bn worth of British arms being licensed to the Gulf state since Prime Minister David Cameron took office in 2010.
Despite the gravity of the allegations and the fact they are supported by organisations including the European Parliament, the British government has refused to suspend military licenses governing arms’ exports to the Gulf state. 4.China economic growth slowest in 25 years（2015年中国经济增速25年来最低）
China's economy grew by 6.9% in 2015, compared with 7.3% a year earlier, marking its slowest growth in a quarter of a century.
China's growth, seen as a driver of the global economy, is a major concern for investors around the world. Beijing had set an official growth target of "about 7%" for the world's second-largest economy. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has said weaker growth would be acceptable as long as enough new jobs were created.
But some observers say its growth is actually much weaker than official data suggests, though Beijing denies numbers are being inflated.
Analysts said any growth below 6.8% would likely fuel calls for further economic stimulus. Economic growth in the final quarter of 2015 edged down to 6.8%, according to the country's national bureau of statistics. (BBC)

Urgent action is needed to stop High Court judges retiring early and to attract quality candidates on to the bench, according to the Ministry of Justice.
It warned that unless recruitment and retention problems were solved, they would have a “significant impact on the administration of justice”.
Lawyers are deterred by the pay levels while existing judges are leaving early because of an unsatisfactory pay and pension package, officials said. One High Court position in the family division was unfilled last year because of a “concerning” lack of suitable candidates. (The Times)

12 Applications for financial relief after overseas divorce etc.
(1) Where—
(a) a marriage has been dissolved or annulled, or the parties to a marriage have been legally separated, by means of judicial or other proceedings in an overseas country, and
(b) the divorce, annulment or legal separation is entitled to be recognised as valid in England and Wales, either party to the marriage may apply to the court in the manner prescribed by rules of court for an order for financial relief under this Part of this Act.
15 Jurisdiction of the court.
(1) Subject to subsection (2) below, the court shall have jurisdiction to entertain an application for an order for financial relief if any of the following jurisdictional requirements are satisfied, that is to say—
(a) either of the parties to the marriage was domiciled in England and Wales on the date of the application for leave under section 13 above or was so domiciled on the date on which the divorce, annulment or legal separation obtained in the overseas country took effect in that country; or
(b) either of the parties to the marriage was habitually resident in England and Wales throughout the period of one year ending with the date of the application for leave or was so resident throughout the period of one year ending with the date on which the divorce, annulment or legal separation obtained in the overseas country took effect in that country; or
(c) either or both of the parties to the marriage had at the date of the application for leave a beneficial interest in possession in a dwelling-house situated in England or Wales which was at some time during the marriage a matrimonial home of the parties to the marriage.
9.Australia refuses to recognise marriage of British man's husband who died on honeymoon（澳大利亚拒绝承认一名在蜜月中死亡男子的同性婚姻）
An English man has called on the UK government to intervene after he was told his late husband’s status would be recorded on a South Australian death certificate as “never married”.
David Bulmer-Rizzi died on Saturday after falling down stairs and cracking his skull at a friend’s home during the newlyweds’ honeymoon in South Australia.
Australia has not legalised same-sex marriage. Overseas same-sex marriages are recognised in some states, but not in South Australia.
The dead man’s husband, Marco Bulmer-Rizzi, was told the death certificate would state “never married” and he would not be recognised as next of kin. Pinsent Masons climbed two spots in this year’s Stonewall index to rank fifth overall in a league table which named UK intelligence agency MI5 as the nation’s most LGBT-friendly employer. Clifford Chance, a new entrant to the Index, was recognised as the second most friendly employer for LGBT lawyers, placing ninth overall in Stonewall’s index. In total, 12 City law firms were included in Stonewall’s Top 100, with Baker & McKenzie, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Norton Rose Fulbright and Herbert Smith Freehills all making the top 25. Additionally, Simmons & Simmons was named a ‘Stonewall Star Performer’, and will mentor lower-performing organisations over the coming year on how to better support bisexual and transgender employees. A federal judge in Pennsylvania sided with the disgraced comedian and granted Cosby's motion to dismiss a defamation lawsuit, according to court records.
Renita Hill, one of the more than 50 women who have publicly accused Cosby of assault, filed the civil suit in October alleging that the actor and his lawyer defamed Hill in the media, court records show.
Judge Arthur J. Schwab dismissed the three claims against Cosby, ruling that the statements "do not support a claim for defamation as defined by Pennsylvania law," according to the ruling. (CNN)

12.London College of Fashion unveils first of its kind law course（伦敦时尚学院公布其首个时尚法课程）
The London College of Fashion has announced that it will be offering a new course especially for wannabe fashion lawyers.
This will be the UK’s first short course dedicated to fashion law — although several university LLB intellectual property modules feature a fashion law element. It will cover the basics of, for example, intellectual property law, international trade requirements, and preventing counterfeits.
‘An Introduction to Fashion Law’ will be taught by fashion law expert Elaine Maguire O’Connor — a Trinity College Dublin grad and founder of trendy fashion law blog Wigs and Gowns. (Legal Cheek)
